Rallying Terminology

Motorkhana

A Motorkhana is a small event, (on gravel or bitumen) where the competitors negotiate a small course around witches hats.
Designed to test the skill of a driver at a fairly slow speed, to keep it safer, competitors are timed from a standing start, until the car comes to a complete stop.

To compete, competitors require:
  • A street legal car, (all cars are safety checked before the start);
  • A Level 1 (try-out) CAMS Licence.
  • Competitors do not require:
  • roll cage,
  • helmet or seatbelts,
  • Fire extinguisher.

  • Khanacross

A Khanacross is basically an oversized motorkhana. It's a small event where competitors negotiate a small rally course around yellow and red flags. You drive between the flags, keeping the yellow flag on the left side, and the red on the right.
Competitors require a street legal car to compete, with seatbelts, helmet, fire extinguisher, and all competitors require a CAMS licence. Again, no roll cage is needed to compete in a khanacross.
These events are similar to motorkhanas, in the fact that competitors are timed from a standing start, until the car comes to a complete stop.

    Autocross

An Autocross is a small rally event where the competitors negotiate a rally course.
Competitors require a street legal car to compete, with seatbelts, helmet and Fire extinguisher, but no roll cage needed.

    Rallying

Rallying in WA can be divided into three competition levels -
  • Clubman Cup, five events per year, entry level.
  • State Championship, five events per year.
  • Australian Championship, six events per year, across Australia.

Events are run on "special stages", which are closed to the public.
Cars are timed to the second in state and clubman cup championships, and to the 10th of a second in the ARC.
