24 November 2005 For Immediate Release WANTED: AUSTRALIA'S PROMISING YOUNG RALLY AND FEMALE DRIVERS Following the successful implementation of a self-nomination process for the CAMS Rising Star program earlier this year, Australia's promising young rally and female drivers will also be able to nominate themselves to be considered for the 2006 CAMS Rally Driver Development Program and 2006 CAMS Women's Driver Development Program. Launched in 2004, following a successful pilot year in 2003, the programs are designed to facilitate the development of Australia's most promising rally and female motor sport competitors. The self-nomination process has been introduced to encourage those eligible to be proactive in the pursuit of their motor sport careers.
Drivers wishing to nominate for the 2006 programs must meet specific
assessment criteria including age, past driver performance and
demonstration of an interest in pursuing an international career.
The successful 2006 squad members will be announced in mid-December. Both the rally and women's squad members will attend the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in late January and again in June 2006. The AIS program focuses on elements of nutrition, physiology, psychology, strength, conditioning and media training. Nominations open today and close on Thursday 8 December 2005. For further information on the selection criteria for both programs and to download the nomination forms, please visit www.cams.com.au/go/sportsdev. CAMS would like to thank the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Motor Sport Foundation for their support of both programs in 2006. --- END For more information regarding this release please contact: Jenny Thompson, Communications Manager, CAMS Tel: (03) 9593 7777 7 July 2005 For Immediate Release URGENT NOTICE - SAFETY HARNESS WITHDRAWN - FIA D-203/T98 The FIA has recently issued an official notice withdrawing the safety harness with the FIA homologation number D-203/T98 with immediate effect. As these harnesses can no longer be considered to comply with the FIA 8853/98 standard, their use is prohibited in all cases in which compliance with the above-mentioned standard is mandatory. This follows the media release issued on 24 June 2005 in which CAMS was notified of the original safety harness failure. The harness is a 3" x 2" racing harness and was manufactured by Taiwan Racing Products Company Limited. This harness is apparently supplied under a number of brand names, and it is understood that there are several suppliers in Australia that sell this harness with their own brand name. CAMS is issuing this notice asking all competition vehicle owners in Australia to inspect their harnesses. The homologation number appears on a label attached to each strap of the harness. If harnesses with the above homologation number are fitted, CAMS advises that they are no longer permitted to be used and must be replaced prior to any further competition. --- END For more information regarding this release please contact: Peter Lawrence, Manager - Technical Services, CAMS Tel: (03) 9593 7777
